IBEW Organizer Field Guide
An app created by an organizer, for organizers.
01
Getting Started
Install Scout on your iPhone home screen for the best experience — it works like a native app with offline support.
Installing on iPhone
  • 1Open Scout in Safari at ibewscout.org
  • 2Tap the Share button at the bottom of Safari
  • 3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
  • 4Tap Add — Scout appears on your home screen like any other app
Logging In

Enter your IBEW email and password. Select your Local from the dropdown. Tap Sign In.

Scout keeps you logged in for 30 days. After signing in once, the app opens directly to your dashboard on future visits. iOS will prompt you to save your password with Face ID on first login.

02
Dashboard
Your home base — a live list of permit projects sorted by proximity to your current location.

Projects sorted nearest-first with union type filters
Project List

Every card shows the contractor name, address, distance from your location, and permit issue date. Projects are always sorted closest first based on your GPS position.

Tap any card to open the full project detail.

Filter by Union Type

Use the filter chips at the top to narrow the list:

IBEW UBCJA Non-Union

All Types shows every project. Unvisited and Visited tabs track which sites you've already logged.

Search

Tap the search bar and type any part of a contractor name or address. Results update as you type.

Tip: The permit value shown in green on each card tells you the estimated size of the job — useful for prioritizing which sites to visit first.
03
Project Card
Full details on a permit project — contractor info, classification, and quick actions.

Project Info

Shows the electrical sub, general contractor (if different), work description, permit number, estimated value, and distance.

Tap Edit next to Project Info to update the GC name, work description, or union type and sync it to the database.

Classify Union Type

If a project hasn't been classified yet, tap one of the chips to set it in one tap:

IBEW UBCJA Non-Union

The chip turns highlighted to confirm the save. The classification is immediately visible to all organizers.

Navigate

Tap the Navigate button to open turn-by-turn directions to the site in your preferred maps app (Apple or Google — set in Settings).

Start Visit

Tap Start Visit to begin the field data capture wizard. This walks you through logging a photo, contacts on site, and vehicle numbers — then syncs everything when you're done.

04
Logging a Visit
The 4-step wizard captures everything you need from a site visit and syncs it to the database.
Step 1 — Photo

Take a photo of the site, job sign, or vehicles. You can skip this step if conditions aren't right.

Step 2 — Log Contacts

For each worker you make contact with, enter:

  • Full Name — use the mic button to dictate
  • Phone Number
  • Role — Journeyman, Apprentice, Helper, or Unknown
  • Signed Authorization Card? — Yes or No
  • Notes — anything they said, activity level, etc.

Tap Save & Add Another to log multiple contacts. Tap Done Adding Contacts when finished.

Step 2 — Log contact details with voice input
Step 3 — Vehicle Numbers

Enter any van or truck numbers visible on site. Tap + Add Vehicle to log multiple. Tap Not Visible if no vehicles are present.

05
Route Planning

Note: For 2-stop routes on iPhone, Apple Maps opens automatically. For 3 or more stops, Google Maps is used since it supports multi-waypoint routing. Set your preferred maps app in Settings.
